porch party | past + present

With many of us quarantined either alone or in small groups, it is so critical to stay calm, positive, and creative where possible. I know that as everything around us has changed so drastically, it is easy to feel powerless and scared, but I do believe that in times like these we see the true power of community, kindness, and innovative thought.

As an event producer, I like creating events in which people feel immersed in the art and creativity around them in hopes that they feel included in a community that is inviting and progressive.

Looking back at this past year, the Porch Party series that I began in Spring 2019 with talented friend and musician Kyle Nicolaideshas been one of the things I am most proud of in my work.

Our idea was to create a fun platform for Kyle to test out new music while inviting other musicians and friends to perform and enjoy. It quickly became a place where the local community came together to enjoy amazing music and be a part of something really special with friends and artists. It became a place of inclusion and community with collaborations, a BYO everything tradition, creativity, warmth, and friendly faces.

Because I chose to make this a free experience for everyone, it became a true heart project and although it started out to be a summer series, I even decided to extend it into December since it shares the same spirit and warmth as the holiday season.

I had originally planned to start this series up again closer to the summer, but reminiscing on the spirit of this event, I believe that our community needs it now more than ever!

To put this together, I want to keep its spirit alive while still keeping every safe and healthy, so I have decided to try out a virtual porch party. It will be new and different for all of us, but is a great way to test the boundaries of digital experiences and bring a sense of community and inclusion to everyone's isolated screens.

I hope that you are all staying safe and strong, and I hope to see you all soon not only for the e-vents that all of our local creatives are putting together, but when we make our way through this.

The Porch Party events has really grown to be its own living organism that changes and grows like the rest of us, and I'm sure it will continue to do so.

Thank you for your support!
